Hay días en los que nos sentimos tristes, melancólicos, desanimados.  Cuando nos atrapa un sentimiento así, es difícil deshacernos de él.  Es necesario vivir nuestra tristeza pero después, hay que soltarla, dejarla ir.

Hace unos días cumplí 37 años.  Los días anteriores a mi cumpleaños me sentía nostálgica, con un nudo en la garganta, irritable.  Quizá porque a veces me duele crecer, quizá porque sentí el peso de los sueños que todavía no he realizado.    Lo importante es que no quería sentirme así el día de mi cumpleaños porque la vida hay que agradecerla y celebrarla.

Entonces, en ese hermoso día soleado decidí hacer algo que en años no había hecho y que me hacía mucha falta:  escaparme con mi cámara al parque.  Estando solos los tres (la naturaleza, mi cámara y yo) mi día se llenó de motivos para sonreír y ahora quiero compartirlos con ustedes.

There are days in which we feel sad, melancholic, disheartened.  Once these feelings get a hold on us, it’s very difficult to get rid of them.   It is necessary to experience sadness at certain moments of our lives, but afterwards we must let it go.

This week I turned 37.  The days before my birthday I was feeling nostalgic, with a lump in my throat, irritable.  Maybe because sometimes growing up is painful for me, maybe because I felt the weight of the dreams that I haven’t made true.  What really mattered was that I didn’t want to feel like that on my birthday because life is a gift we must be grateful for and celebrate.

So, in that beautiful sunny day I decided to do something I hadn’t done in ages and that I really needed to do: go to the park with my camera.  Being alone out there with my camera gave me many reasons for smiling and now I want to share them with you.

Lo que me hace sonreír.

Things that make me smile.

1. La oportunidad de mirar al cielo y buscar figuras en sus nubes, de sentir el abrazo del infinito.  El cielo es sinónimo de esperanza, de libertad, de posibilidades.

1. The opportunity to look at the sky and find figures in the clouds, to feel the infinity embracing me.  The sky is a synonym of hope, of freedom, of possibilities.

2.  A pesar de vivir en ciudad grande, el tener un lugar donde convivir con la naturaleza, alejado de los ruidos citadinos; un lugar donde se escucha el canto del viento y también el suspiro de las plantas.

2. In spite of living in a big city, being in  a place where it is possible to feel nature, faraway of the city noises; a place where we can listen to the song of the wind and the sighs of plants.

3.  Encontrar el sol entre las hojas de los árboles,  dejarlo deslumbrarme y quedarme con su luz en todo el cuerpo.

3. To find the sun among the leaves of the trees,  let it dazzle me, and then keep its light in my entire body.

4.  Escuchar el canto de los pájaros. Percibirlos escondidos en el pasto y disfrutar el sonido de su aleteo cuando me saben cerca.  Perseguirlos despacio con la intención de atraparlos en mi cámara.

4. To listen to the birds singing. To notice them when they are hiding in the grass and to enjoy the sound of their wings flapping.  To chase them slowly with the idea of  catching them with my camera.

5. Sentir el amor de los árboles, descifrar los mensajes ocultos de su corteza,  admirar sus brazos abiertos y abrazarlos para empaparme de sus sueños, de su nobleza.

5. To feel the love of the trees, decipher the messages hidden in their barks, to admire their arms wide open and hug them in order to be immersed in their dreams, in their kindness.

6. Las frágiles flores,  sobrevivientes, perfumes de viento, poesía en un paraíso verde, caricias efímeras que me hacen sentir viva.

6. The fragile flowers, survivors, scent of the wind,  poetry in a green paradise, ephemeral caresses that make me feel alive.

7. Los columpios en los que se agitó mi adolescencia y el comienzo de mi edad adulta y donde ahora juega feliz mi pequeño sobrino. La resbaladilla donde todavía juego a ser niña.   En este parque celebré mis 19 años con las que eran mis dos mejores amigas y ahora,  mis 37, conmigo misma.

7. The swings where my adolescence and the beginning of my young adulthood stirred and where my little nephew plays nowadays.  The slide where I still play to be a girl.  It was here where I celebrated my 19th birthday with my two best friends and where I celebrated my 37th birthday by myself.

8. Encontrar un arco iris en el tenue reflejo del  agua y navegar en ese mundo paralelo en el que puedo  esconderme…

8. To find a rainbow in the soft reflection of the water and to navigate in that parallel world where I can hide…

9. Encontrar un árbol que tiembla en un charco, que se cubre con las hojas del suelo, majestuoso y pequeño,  efímero, listo para evaporarse con el sol.

9. To find a tree trembling in a puddle, covering itself with the leaves on the floor, majestic and small, ephemeral, ready to evaporate vanish with the sun.

10. Antes de regresar a casa, la oportunidad de sentarme y sentirme parte de la naturaleza, reencontrar mis sueños y mi camino entre los árboles. Disfrutar la danza del viento y de los pájaros.

10.  Before going back home, the opportunity to sit down and feel  I’m part of Nature, rediscover my dreams and my path among the trees. To enjoy the dance of the wind and of the birds.

Y al final, una sonrisa para agradecer, una sonrisa para amar, una sonrisa para compartir.
